Yamaha MT-07 New Model 2022. Yamaha’s MT-07 has been a major success, owing to a pair of outstanding engines, fantastic aesthetics, and a cheap price. Since its inception in 2014, it has sold over 17,000 units per year in Europe alone – it is their most popular motorcycle and dominates the MT range. In this purchasing guide, we’ve sought the support of MT-07 UK Owners’ Club founder Janis Strelkovs, owners, and professionals to find out what makes the MT so fantastic – and sometimes not so great.
Yamaha, thankfully, came to the rescue with the FZ-07. The Fuzz was the ideal bike for the job. It had a 270-degree parallel-twin engine that was loud and characterful; handled well; it looked modern, and it cost $6,990. Since then, Suzuki has realized its mistake and re-issued a legitimate SV650, Honda has entered the battle with the 2018 CB650F (though it seems very similar to the FZ to me), and Kawasaki has produced the Z650. To put it another way, the lightweight “hyper nude” category is really popular right now.

Ride quality & brakes
The rear shock is completely new, having the same preload adjustability as before, but now with a range of rebound damping adjustments. The spring rate has increased by 11%, high-speed rebound damping has increased by 27%, and high-speed compression damping has increased by 40%, while the MT’s KYB front forks remain non-adjustable but feature a 6% more spring rate and 16% more rebound damping – all in an effort to deliver improved feel and control.
The ride is now more accommodating – the suspension absorbs most bumps and road imperfections – but you can ride the MT harder and quicker since the springs at both ends aren’t leaping about like hyperactive children after a sugar high. It is not necessary to purchase emulators or cartridges. It’s so awful in the back that you have to undo the top mount, then It is not necessary to purchase emulators or cartridges.
It’s so awful in the back that you have to undo the top mount, then the bottom mount, and then toss the shock away. We could rebuild it and make it better, but it would still be a waste of time and money. Install a basic Nitron R1 device (which we offer in large quantities) and we’ll build it according to your specifications. The forklift work will set you back £245 plus VAT, while the Nitron shock will set you back £365 plus VAT.. both of which are well worth the money.
Brakes
What about the brakes? The brake calipers come from the FZ8, which got them from the earlier R-series. So they’ll require some upkeep, but with frequent cleaning, they’ll be OK. The regular pads, on the other hand, are made of a very soft composition that is fantastic for feel but not so much for power. Instead, Janis suggests EBC HH pads, though he warns that these won’t last as long as the originals if used frequently. He also suggests replacing the basic rubber hoses with HEL braided lines (which are due for replacement on early cycles anyhow).
Engine
The Yamaha MT 07 2022 engine, power, and torque of the new 2017 model are identical to those of its predecessor. The MT’s success may be due to Yamaha’s parallel twin, which has remained unmodified. On the one hand, it’s delightfully fueled, unintimidating, and simple to control — excellent for beginner riders — but it still has enough attitude and ferocity to be entertaining. When you decide to go on, the 74bhp engine has enough power to sneak through a line of fast-moving traffic. On paper, the little engine shouldn’t be nearly as entertaining as it is.
According to Janis, there’s nothing to see here, so go on: “There’s nothing substantial to be concerned about in terms of the engine.” We seldom notice problems with the engine. Just make sure the bike has been serviced correctly, and if it has more than 12k miles on it, ask if the plugs have been replaced; it’s a difficult task, and some professionals will attempt to avoid it if they can.
If you’re looking at a bike with 20,000 miles or more, pay attention to items like the chain and sprockets, since OEMs only last about that long. Valve inspections are required at 24k miles, so expect a large next service bill. however, in my experience, no one has ever needed them adjusted at the first main service.” If the gear indicator begins to malfunction, turn off the switch (it’s right above the front sprocket) and clean the contacts – they become clogged with dirt from the chain over time.
Reliability & build quality
The engine has an established track record of reliability, and the build quality is up to Yamaha’s typically high standards.
There are two Yamaha MT 07 2022 owner reviews on the MCN website, with a 4.5 out of 5-star rating showing largely positive feedback, with a few quality flaws that may be explained away due to the bike’s low price. Click here for more details, information, and news about motorcycles.
